Geographically,
the District of Columbia is shaped like a diamond (a diamond that
is missing a chunk out of its lower left quadrant). And at the northern tip of
that diamond is Colonial
Village.
Tucked into Rock Creek Park, this neighborhood is bounded to the west by
parkland, to the east by 16th
Street, to the south by Holly Street, and to the north by the DC-Maryland
borderline.
The community is comprised of detached single-family
homes that include Colonials, Ramblers, Split-levels, and Tudors.
Among the Tudors are some absolutely
extraordinary properties that were designed in the late 1920s and 1930s
for grand entertaining and gracious living. Boasting stone facades,
leaded/stained glass windows, and intricate woodwork detailing, some of these homes could best be described as
manors. Just
imagine an English country estate in the woods, and you get the idea.
Colonial Village's eastern boundary of 16th Street
separates it from the neighborhood of Shepherd
Park, which includes more modest homes on smaller lots, generally
speaking.
