Mount Pleasant

Heller's Bakery, located on Mount Pleasant Street just south of Park Road, has called the neighborhood home for more than half a century.

Mount Pleasant is one of the city's most delightful  contradictions:
It's centrally located, and yet off the beaten path. Its origins date back to the 1700s, yet it is a hip suburban oasis. And while the neighborhood is relatively isolated from the rest of the city, Mount Pleasant is bustling with activity thanks to a small commercial strip near its eastern border. Heller's Bakery, a veritable Washington institution, has called the neighborhood home for more than half a century.
Tucked into Rock Creek Park, Mount Pleasant is bounded to the east by 16th Street, to the west by Adams Mill Road, to the north by Piney Branch Park, and to the south by Hobart Street.
Some of the neighborhood's earliest residents were New Englanders who relocated to the capital in order to work for the federal government following the Civil War.
Today, the neighborhood boasts a diverse population, so much so that some have dubbed it a "mini United Nations."
Mount Pleasant also touts numerous architectural treasures thanks in large part to it being designated as an historic district in 1987.
